Nope, its not power steering fluid for sure. My power steering fluid is light and very white transparent. What is leaking is brown like 20w50 engine oil ;)
Is there a cover for the "original GM" filter location?

any picture or diagram that I can refer too it ?

If its the original filter location is it easy to fix ?

As I wrote yesterday, where the filter used to be, an adapter was fitted, with the 2 hoses leading from it to the remote filter,

That adapter is fitted to the block with a single hollow bolt ( like the sort used in "banjo" fuel fittings), with 2 "O" rings; one sealing the bolt to the adapter, a larger one sealing the adapter to the block.

You can see schematics at web site "marinepartseurope".

http://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-cat-7746190.aspx

Section: "Oil pan and Oil Pump".

The remote filter in that diagram is possibly different to yours, but the adapter on the block is the same.

In the section "Oil Pan and Oil Pump" , this is the later remote filter.

Deafwish : thanks for infos, We can see the "original" oil filter location on my first pic, and nope its not coming from that location.
As Rpengr it could come from the rear mail seal , and I think hes right. I will have a detail look tomorrow pm.

for sure its its not coming from the oil pan gasket.

Rear main seal is probably a big job, Grrrr...

should I keep as is ?

The rear seal is a big job because it needs the engine out. It doesn't seem such a big leak at the moment ( wherever it's coming from). As to it being the rear seal, I'm not convinced, I'd have expected more leakage Have you actually checked or not the oil adapter where it fits to the block, the bolt holding it on, whether the hose connections are leaking ?

Graham,

I checked it last week end and if I remember I did not see oil around the standard oil filter. Will check it more tomorrow pm for sure, and will take multiple pics with iphone.

My Option a this time - Main rear gasket, Starter, Standard oil filter hose (not sure because it leak directly in the middle of the engine)
for sure its not the power steering or the oil pan.

My boat is a 2008 with 500hours, is it common Rear seal leaking ?

For the most part those Chevy small blocks don't seem to have real common leaks at the rear mains, my 25 year old one doesn't leak from either the front or rear main. The only place there was a small leak or seepage was around the timing chain cover up front and the bolt that goes into the drain plug area where the dip stick tube connects to the oil pan. No other leaks at all on this engine which is surprising.

Never used it but you can use a high mileage oil such as Valvoline MaxLife 20w/50 that has seal conditioners that can stop small leaks. First though, I'd really get a good look underneath, sometimes you can tighten up the oil pan drain bolt, and the oil pan bolts (just be careful, use a small handle ratchet and just make sure they are snug, do not over-tighten). You have a clean bilge there, in mind those leaks would not even show up unless I had a real bright light.

See if you can get your camera underneath, pointing up at that remote filter adaptor, or the pan, bolts, etc. Try to narrow it down more....

One of the most common leaks on these engines would be the rocker covers, which of course are on top, but a leak could go down the back of the engine? Investigation with a rag at the back of the rocker covers could eliminate this possibility.

After investigation during my week end it 90% the main back seal. There is nothing coming from the top. And what surprise I got this week end; both engine have the same issue! no idea why. Im not sure about "No leak" products, but I have no fear on Valvoline High Mileage that contains already some No leak stuff.

500hours 2008 engine. Grr.

My oil leak come from there (see orange arrow on pic)

There is no oil on oil pan, oil come from plate and leaks in the middle of the engine.
This is why I suspect the rear main seal.
But! ; im no able to find any similar problem for a 2008 550hours engine.

if its not the rear main seal, what it can be located there ?

before I put my "no leak" stuff in, I want to be sure.

Certainly seams like it would be rear main seal.

Only other thing I can think of is grease from the U-joints / Drive shaft spline shedding some liquid oil, but I think that would show up farther back.

They changed my bellows this summer and mechanic guy also change my U-Joint on both sterndrive.

Should I see something if I removed sterndrive. But at the end when I touch the "black plate" where oil is leaking I sound like engine oil and not light grease oil

If it was from the U-joints, it would have decreased over time. If your amount of leakage is consistant (or increasing), then it must be the rear main seal.

If the leak isn't too bad, you could probably go for years without fixing it. Just keep oil absorbing pads under the engine.
