I have this generator, stored in the engine compartment, placed on swim platform or onshore when used but it weighs a ton to lug around (60lbs!). I wanted the Honda but it is like 3x the price where I live (not in the U.S.)' i.e $2200. Can find used now and then for like $1500 but its already out of my comfort zone...

We always cook with the door open, so "exhaust" from the stove is a non issue. Still thinking combo alc/electric is the way to go.

Could consider onboard gen too but the ones I have seen would be a pain to fit in the engine compartment...hm.

I love how they take the dB readings at 7 meters away so it seems like it's just as quiet as a eu2000i. The eu2000i is 59db @ 1 meter. At 7 like your model it's probably 40 something. I know you can't get better I was just pointing out their marketing. I wonder why it's so expensive? Just order one from Amazon, here in America you can get a Yamaha ef2000is for $989 shipped.

It is plenty noisy... :(

On top of that $1000 comes shipping plus import duties and VAT :( commies in charge! No politics...

If I get an unexpected bonus @ work, a Honda unit is high on the list :) I assure you.

Picked up the score of the century at my father's marina. Couple year old Honda EU2000i generator. Some old guy didn't want it because it ran really bad and leaked oil and he purchased a new Yamaha. Sat in his storage for 2-3 years he said and gave it to me for FREE!!!

Total investment? $60 bucks.

I picked up a mint Honda EU2000i for $400. It runs the boat with AC going, plenty of power to spare.

Yes, picked it up for free from an old crusty sailor. I ended up giving my father $400 to own it "exclusively", it lives under the cockpit sink in a fancy sunbrella cover.

I'm sure it would just be Ric trying to talk in a deep voice anyway. I would like to hear from the crusty old sailor, but only if he talks like a pirate

Haddock_: That is a beautiful 258!! Congrats on your new Vista!

I have a 2006 255 Sundowner that has a very similar hull as your Vista. The anchor locker has a poor design. I filled the bottom of the locker with spray construction foam up to the bottom of the drainage holes. Then I cut a piece of neoprene that covered the foam and lapped up the hull. I sealed this in place with 3M 5200 sealant. Now the anchor locker drains. This is important to avoid mold and if you trailer between lakes and want to pass an invasive species inspection.

I had a "07" 258. PM if you want to and I can give you fixes to problems that are common on that boat.
