But look how the two pieces are joined at the bottom, a metal plate with screws on each end joining the two pieces. I eventually removed the whole seat from the boat so I could work on it without being constricted for space. To do this I had to remove the storage bin located behind my feet while seated in captains chair. Even then, it took me an hour with a pair of pliers turning a half inch screw bit, because a screwdriver would not fit! Brilliant FW!!!

Great job, and it looks like you've made it better than original!

If I knew such a tool existed, about half way through my frustration  , I would have paid double for it!! Thanks for the suggestion - I will look for one of these at a local tool discount site, as it really would be helpful in a tight spot!

One can kinda make one in a pinch if you have enough clearance; take a 1/4" drive socket wrench, a 1/4" socket, and a short philips screwdriver bit, and have at it.
Those kinds of screws are frustrating to say the least!
I got a set of these newer style "Max Access" drivers at Sears last year, and it would be even more ideal for doing this.http://www.sears.com/craftsman-51-piece-max-axess-chrome-plated-alloy/p-00929309000P?keyword=max+axess&sid=ISx20140327xNonBrand&psid=21x3876532&knshCrid=3741116&k_clickID=4f2e111c-23cc-ef08-9b45-000059a20ff3&redirectType=SRDT
