Paul, what brand of AGM's do you use with that warranty and where do you buy them--Rolls maybe where you are in Winthrop?

For the record, I don't know "Jack" but I do talk to Melanie and Pat in their parts and service depts. I use 3-A for most all my parts and pick them up on the way to the Cape with a detour to Hingham off the Southeast Expressway / Rt. 3
My boat was bought new at 3-A back in 2001 and I am the second owner, but I bought it through Smith Yacht Sales who are across the street at the Hingham Marinas office complex who wound up with it rather than 3-A Marine somehow.

Don't know if the wet cells can take it--have to check the battery brand and call them and West or East Penn. Who knows, maybe should be running the charger on a wet cell profile instead of an AGM profile. We'll find out next week.

Jack is the owner. I am at the Winthrop Yacht club.

Sears sells them, there made by http://www.odysseybattery.com/ As mentioned, I have 2 that are 7years old and still going strong.

I wanted to mention earlier. I keep my 3 house batteries seperated and only combine them when needed. If one goes bad, it will not bring down the other. I also added a 2nd charger to do this. The other reason fo the 2nd charger is that when we are on vacation and I start the genset, they will charge up quicker.

I have always used AGM batteries in my 278 Vista. With EFI, the boat starts up pretty quickly and I use the boat April - October (55-100 degrees ambient temperatures) so I dont have any "intense" cold starts.

NOW if you boated in cold weather, had a carbureted boat, etc etc I could see the need for a higher CCA battery, maybe even non-AGM. But for 3 seasons now (going on the 4th), the AGM's work great for house and starting!

I use Duracell brand AGM's, group size 31, purchased from Sams Club. They have been absolutely ridiculously amazing, allowing me to stay on the hook for 2-3 days with the fridge running, lights, television on an inverter, below dropping under 12v.
