That's it exactly in the video... However factor in now a port or starboard current or wind( which he doesn't have there). and by the time the stern line is secure the bow has started swinging...
Passing the lazy line forward on our boat of course involves going through the centre of the boat and picking it back up again, as we can't walk all the way down the side...
By this point, the bow has swung almost 60 degrees or more with no boat either side to stop it ...
Hmmmmm

I think of all the ideas here, having a rope attached to the forward windward cleat is the best which can be ready to immediately attach at the dock to hold the bow, until the lazy line can be passed forward to replace it...
I'm curious on the effect power will have with only a stern line attached..can I hold it there with power ?
Was reluctant to try that as spinning prop and lots of ropes could spell disaster !

You may find this interesting/amusing...and this guy has twin engines AND bow thrusters !

Thanks all

If i had to do what that guy in the video did i wouldn't own a boat. That's ludicrous.

Thats worst than docking the space shuttle. Would the marina set you float a mooring from the sea anchor. You could hang your weighted line from it to catch with a hook as you come in. Bow thruster?

Yes it does make it all a bit difficult for a new boater..

I think I may try attaching a buoy to the bow line where it drops down to the sea bed which as you suggest can be picked up,as we reverse in buying a lot of time. Have to be careful with the prop and the rope in that case
Bow thruster..... Hmmm. I wish ! :-)

Even the boaters passing by may catch that line in there props.

Unlikely , quite a few here in the marinahave buoys on the bow holding rope...from there it goes straight down , and it's quite a wide channel.

That's a crazy video. He did a very good job. Looks like the wind was very strong. When he started backing in I never thought he would fit....
I think if I was able to afford multi million dollar yacht like that I would find a better marina or at least insist on a piling or finger. geez...

This is what I do when I dock by myself which may help.
I run a long line from the bow on the outside of all the rails and bimini and loosely tie it to the stern. I also have a stern line attached and loosely tied in the same spot.
When I back in I get as straight as possible, obviously. Then I put in neutral and quickly get off the boat and grab the 2 lines. I quickly attached the stern line and hold the bow line so it doesn't swing. I have a finger on one side so it makes life easier than you but maybe you can use the bow line and tie it to the dock a few feet away from the boat to keep it from swinging until you get all your other lines set. If you have a breeze and/or a current you should be able to tie off one side.

Hope that helps. Docking is the most stressful part of boating for me.. too many more expensive boat surrounding me and I don't want to hit them.

Babbot, yes that was one of my original ideas, and it makes total sense to me....I'm impressed you do it alone ! ,but you are indeed lucky to have the finger to help.
Off to get some rope tomorrow and will be trying this one first I think

Thanks !
