Do you happen to have the dimensions for the lettering for the port of origin? Thanks for the help.

Got out to it this morning. Letters are 1 1/4" high.

Thanks CaptWalt and the Real Dr. Evil. I am going to order the letters for the name of my boat today. I really appreciate the assistance. I am glad there are many of us Evil, because then there will be a lot of people to answer dumb questions. I never grew up around boats nor had friends with boats so I am a real newbie. I am taking the Coast Guard course and chomping at the bit to actually drive it! Any Chicago boaters out there that go through the locks? I will be in River City just south of the loop.

Walt,

I have to agree, the way you laid out the name and home port looks fantastic, I am going to have to copy that design when I can think of a name for the boat.

Zelena,

You can call me Brett :) And there is no such thing as a dumb question.

FYI - for anyone doing graphics or something beyond a typical name/font -- Ryan @ Winnisquam has a great sign shop that they partner with.

They can do pretty much whatever... All high-performance vinyl.

As a comparison -- locally, a shop wanted $275 for the name/hailing port for my 318. Ryan is having it made up for me for less than $100.

For basic hailing port/name/numbers though - I don't think BoatUS can be beat.

That is a great course. I think everyone should have to take that. Between that and spending plenty of time on here you won't be a newbie long.

Way to do things right!

Actually the original owner who I bought her from did the naming. He really did a nice job! The admiral and I have teetered back and forth on renaming her but dozens of other things have fallen ahead in the priority queue and now we sorta like the name. If I did rename her I would definately go with the same layout. I will update the home port since we are in Miami and not Ft. Lauderdale

Well, with all the pre-season stuff to be worried about, I am still on this naming thing! Thanks for all the responses, and I agree the Coast Guard class has been good, but I wish I could jump in my boat and practice some of the things we learn in a classroom instead of staring out at the snow . . . but why digress.

One last question re the name on the storage hatch. The folks at the decal place are not recommending going with bigger letters like on Capt'n Walt's boat because (like his) one of the letters would go over the latch. Capt'n Walt was your name difficult to put on (Oh, you might not have done it, so maybe a dumb question)?

As for Powellcrazy and Mr. Beaumont, I will likely go with a name with a font size like yours (all under the latch). It is hard to visulize now, but does it seem a little on the small side or am I worrying re nothing.

Sorry for obsessing on this and appreciate all of the tips and encouragement.

It may or may not go on the latch depending on the name and case for the letter that goes in that position.

The latch is dead center so you should be able to figure it out if it will go over the latch or not.

I put my boat name on the back hatch and put the port of call on the area next to it...I had to move things around until everything lined up and nothing hit the hatch pull.
