How can that be. Insurance companies rates don't fluctuate that in a short period of time. What changed?

The only thing I can think of is NBOA asked what they lay up period would be, I don't recall if Boat US did or not.

In this part of the country, winter lay up is a given , and all good insurance companies know it.

Actually it's http://www.nboat.com

I just tried to use their website and after 10 minutes of filling out web forms it threw an error. Grrrr....

We are going through this right now:

Here in Southwest Florida here are a few rates
AAA = $1164
Boat US = $1254
American Modern Ins. Group ( found by local Allstate agent ) =$1140
Progressive = $1140 ( with auto policies)
standard1% ded. /
Nationwide cancelled our homeowners policy so we are changing all insurance away from them. Our home survived Hurricane Charlie with no claims.

As a side note, our dock is covered for $48K on our present homeowner policy with AAA.

9BALL

These quotes are for a 2005 V268

For the guy checking FL. My numbers for a 2007 288 are,
Boat U.S.
Year rate $1,139
Towing $500
Deductable $2,520
And I only insured the boat for 63K.
My cruising range is South Eastern United States and does not include the Bahamas. Add $100 for the Bahamas--which I will do this summer. The insurance policy goes down 10% every year you don't have a claim.

I did double all the standard coverage for my boat hurting someone else’s, or someone getting hurt on/by my boat. It was a nominal monetary increase to double these coverages.

I also rack store my boat when not in use. The marina I store my boat is recognized in the Boat US Hurricane Club--which basically says they know how to dry store boats during a hurricane ultimately preserving the boat and minimizing damage.

As you can see I do take alot risk with the deductable and not insuring the Full value of the boat. I am betting on myself to keep the boat out of harm’s way (knock on wood)...The insurance companies prefer you bet against yourself...ie..Lower deductable, 100% value. I hope this helps--by the way if anybody see's anything out there better in South FL, please let me know.
