I've been told that the a/c condensate drains into the bilge on 298's. My bilge is always got some water in it, worse during the summer. The water is always crystal clear.

a/c condensate can be plumbed a number of different ways. Right into bilge, sump, or as our is, venturi vacuum in the raw water discharge.

OP here. It is my AC condensation because during the winter the bilge is always as dry as Texas is right now.

Interesting to bring this up as my boat (formerly SoonerBoater's boat) of course has the AC condensate running into the bilge. Well, yesterday, for some reason, it wasnt draining properly and the pan over filled sligtly and got the carpet wet. I took the hose off and blew through it and it felt as if it were plugged and then it blew free.

I am pretty sure I am going to just run some hose into my sump pump and let it drain that way. It looks like a very simply/easy run. Has anyone done this?

Yes, although I built a dedicated sump in the bilge for the A/C condensate since the shower sump isn't a feasible run in my boat.

An advantage (beyond a dryer bilge) of using a sump is that the condensate tubing is sucked dry each time the sump dumps overboard. The sump box pulls a slight vacuum as the water level is drawn down, clearing the condensate line. That might not be so with the shower sump since there are several lines feeding it.

My 248 came from the factory with the AC draining into the shower sump, unfortunately with the shower drain hooked up as well it pulls no vacuum but no doubt its better than draining into the bilge.

I made the switch today from it draining into the bilge, into my shower sump. I used about 5-6 feet of 1/2" hose and 1 foot of 3/4" hose. I linked the two together with a proper barb fitting. I filled my pan up with water to make sure it drains, and it appears that all is well.

One thing of note is that I left the original drain line in the bilge in case this ends up not working well/properly, but I don't envision any problems.

Nauti Luv,

Having myself a 298, where within the bilge did your AC drain (I do not see a hose exposed unless it is under the board decking within the bilge that supports the batteries. How did you route over to the shower sump? Thanks!

When you take the seat cushion and panel off, look at the rear (aft) of your AC pan. There is a port there as well as one on the port side of the tray. They "tee" together and run aft towards the bilge. The tube runs under the steps (your top step pops up/off) and begins to run towards the rear of the boat. I believe it runs along side the first stringer up from the bottom of the boat on the port side.

All I did was remove that tube at the "tee" which is at the aft side of the drain pan and run a new line from the pan to my shower sump as I had an available port. Very simple. One thing to do is to be sure that the line is placed in a way that allows the water to drain, meaning...no up hill runs in the line. The water is flowing properly to the sump and pumping out as needed.
