I don't think you will find yourself shutting off your generator at night and keeping the cabin a cool 68-72 degrees. Its no cooler. It may cool down quicker and it may get to a lower temp but your boat won't hold it during the night with the hatch closed and the AC off.

I agree Cincy...I can be cold during the night and hear that compressor kick off and a very short time later be too warm. That mid cabin gets stuffy pretty darn quick without a lot of air moving around in there. I think we keep our cabin at 74 degrees during the night. If I set it even one or two degrees cooler it gets too cold and that's coming from the admiral who absolutely does not tolerate heat well.

Firecadet wouldn't have had this problem in the past two summers but like everywhere else this summer the midwest has at times been intolerable.

Are you going to double up on those hose clamps?

Have you double clamped everything in your boat? No need if you double clamp things than you run the risk of the clamp not being on tightened down on the barb of the fitting and it will split a hose way easier!

You are suggesting to not double-clamp? Or are you saying that incorrect double-clamping is worse than a single clamp? If the latter, I agree. Should you not be suggesting to doubler-clamp correctly?

In my boat, yes, anything that can sink the boat or blow it up is double-clamped.

I would say the latter of your statement is true. I've seen a lot of crap at work on systems where operators double clamp and the slightest bit of vibration on the hose and the clamp digs in and splits the hose. For some reason they never split during the day it's always a 2 am call in to somewhere not close!

New unit is fantastic.

For comparison...in Hammond we overslept on day and woke up at 1030....to 79 degrees  Unit was set at 72.

Sunday, we woke up to 72 degrees..unit was set to 72. I turned it down to 68 to see what would happen. I had a temp gauge sitting in the V-berth....on the bow side of the sink in the galley. It got down to 67 degrees...although the thermostat said 74.

The sensor for the thermostat is right on the front of the unit, in the first picture you can see the clear plastic holder where it slides into. So the thermostat might read a bit high..but the boat can be cool. The new AC unit, coupled with the vent I added make a fantastic difference!
