I suppose the rub rail might have taken a good hit in its past and cracked the fiberglass under it, but isn't that something like a 3-foot wave to the side of your boat? On plane, even worse! Is that typical of a nice day on Lake Michigan?

Ha ha yes that would be a nice day on Lake Michigan with all the boat traffic and the 3-6 foot rollers we get. When we were having the water come up the spray of the water was about even with where we were sitting. The boat may have taken a good hit we do not know the history since we only got it in June.with only 42 hours on the motor.

If the water is coming in through the joint under the rubrail, it should be really easy to find with a garden hose at the dock. You should be able to find any leaks from the outside this way. Once you find them then you can figure out how to repair them.

Well sorry to say we found where the water is coming in. It is where I thought it was all along. The rub rail in one spot is away from the side of the boat and as soon as I put the hose on it my husband yelled for me to stop cause the water was coming in. What is crazy is that it doesn't appear like it was damaged on that side at all, no scratches, gouges, no marks nothing so I guess we will be getting that fixed soon. Good thing boating season is almost done for us in Michigan and we can have it repaired over the winter while we are not using it. Thanks for all fo your help. Not sure where to take it yet to get it fixed. Four Winns dealer? Local fiberglass repair place? Will have to do some research.

Take it to Barrett's in Spring Lake. They do excellent (but pricey) gel coat and fiberglass repair.

Dont be sorry, finding the leak is alway best. Read these boat forums, a lot of people have small leaks they never can find. Plus It's a clean and easy fix, your dealer or any good fiberglass shop can do it.

I would goop it up with some caulking till winter, the get it done during the off season.

Wanted to let everyone know that after my husband put some caulk where the rub rail had a gap we took the boat out for the weekend. Had typical ride for us on Lake Michigan on Sunday with 3-4 foot waves/rollers plenty of water splashing up on the sides of the boat. NO WATER. Inside the cabin!
