Yes, it's always good to try and help a fellow boater, but mis information and speculation most likely is of no help.

A couple of questions for "Stan"

1.) Was the boat imported from the US (Florida perhaps) ?
2.) Did you have a complete hull survey and mechanical survey done by an independent surveyor before purchase?
3.) Did you sea trial the boat before purchase ? Was there a planing issue at that time ?
4.) Do the engines reach max RPM in neutral with drives not engaged ?
5.) Did you get service history and documentaion with the boat when purchased ?
6.) Have the throttle's linkages/cables been checked to verify full movement ?

This could be a problem with the power trim/tilt on the stern drive.

On my 268 vista my (2 year old!) daughter inadvertently trimmed it out without me noticing a couple of days back. When I went to accelerate to get the boat planing, it would not get above 3000 RPM and obviously the bow was fairly high and it wouldn't plane.

I realised very quickly that this was the cause and trimmed it back down, all being normal however a similar situation could stop a boat planing and getting above 3000 rpm if the trim tilt was jamming or similar.

just a thought.....
