While your in there checking things with a dvom it might be a good time perform a continuity check of your Automatic charging relay if you have one. This is another component that utilizes diodes in your system. You should only have continuity in one direction from your input post to your output posts. Also do you voltage drop test across the terminals. The voltage drop should be minimal.

Looks like I will need an alternator... With the engine running, I am still reading 12.45 Volts. :(
At least the alternator is easy to get to. :)

Thanks for everyone help on this.

So far, by crossing the cables to a battery I have:
1. Replaced two batteries. They wouldn't hold a charge, even on shore power.
2. Replaced the fuse for the stereo. (Located under the gear shift)
3. Replaced the Ignition Relay fuse (Located on top of the engine, black box).
and now
4. The Alternator.

I was still able to get out last week and it looks like we have a full weekend planned for Memorial Day weekend.

Enjoy and boat safe. :)

If you have the same alternator I have on my 2005 it is expensive! The windings should be fine so you could probably have a rebuilder replace those diodes for MUCH cheaper. Good luck

you're probably right... a new alternator cost about $200. I should probably see if someone can rebuild it in my area.

If you can score one for $200, jump on it. When I checked for a new one for our 2000, the new one was around $800, had our rebuilt for $125 ish

No offence but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one suffering from the electrical 1,2,3's....

Did my batteries, then the solenoids, then the altenator, now the starter....

But with that all taken care of and my boat started for the first time in 20 months (took last summer off for home reno's)
As stated by others on here the starter was not a bad swap at all.... tough to get at but only about an hour in total and a local electrical suply was able to track me down an OMC approved starter for $130 CAD.

Since my question somewhat ties into this topic I figured why start a new thread...

Now that my girl is back to life (had it started yesterday) I want to replace my batteries and am not sure how far to go
I have priced out a combo of an 8D with 400 amp/hours reserve combined with a 1200 cranking amp 200 a/h for starting at $550CAD with 5 year warranty. this would give me a total reserve of 600 a/h.... is that way overboard???

All I've ever had till now was 2 marine deep cycle @ 125 a/h each and 950 cranking amps. I have the guest charge pro system which has never been hooked up but I want to get an electrician to wire it up properly...

What is a good power set up....average day I may run my motor for 2-3 hours and the rest of the time we are on the hook relaxing with food/friends/music

Thanks, Ian

The final outcome...

Two fuses blown on the battery chargers.
The Alternator is fine.
Thanks to jsimon for telling me where to find the fuses. (Behind the Guest Battery Selector).

Let the weekend bigin. :)
