The twin 5.0L V8's are fine for a V298. 5.7L V8's are even better. Insurance should be about $300 per year for that boat. Boat insurance is much more reasonable than for an auto. Here is a link to info about a 2004 V298, so you can check all the specs, if you have not already.

Congrats on looking!!!

As to "The specific options I am refering to are AC/Heat, Generator, windlass, and maybe radar arch." I try to buy my boats with only a few options and then add them myself. The savings and the reward of DYI is far greater. Plus when a problem comes up, since you installed it, you know how it comes apart!!

I installed my own windlass (savings $1,200) and radar arch (saving $2,000). Plus many smaller options, radar, lighting, 12v/data sub-panel, 3rd battery...... BUT, I would have the factory install the genset and A.C./heater. Since these option are installed as the boat is being built, the labor is far less than having the dealer do it. Even if you installed it your self, as you know, is it easier to install wiring and plumping with the walls of a house open when its being built or when the walls are up?

Since this is your first, take a U.S.C.G. class and try to join a yacht club. Clubs are far cheaper and have seasoned boaters that love to share there knowledge!

Boatingboy: What did they change to wood in 2000? I know the answer, I'm just checking if you know.

Don't feel bad, most SPAMMERS would not know the answerr.

I imagine he was just being cautious since you posted to a 7 month old inactive thread?

Don't take it personally, we're had a rash of spam attacks lately.....

Don't think that is the case, you must have missed one of "it's" earlier posts, John caught it as well.

So you have the above mentioned boat; a Four Winns 225 Sundancer,,,,um OK!

And a 1999 Four Winns 298 Vista capable of 44 mph.

Nice fleet so far. What else do you have?
