Noticed the decreasing storage at the Norwalk show on current models...trying to maximize the interior space, but it becomes useless if you have stuff laying around. I thought the same thing for the forward berth...no shelving or cabinet space.

I went to the Four Winns site to the build and price section for the 458...while I did not add every available option, I nicely equipped the boat as I would like it (if I could afford it!) and came out with a list retail price of $758k...would expect to be able to get close to 20% off that. How a boat a size class smaller is in the same range is still beyond me...I know you can push past $800 list on the 458, but I'm still really surpised at the initial price. Wondering when Four Winns will put up a new splash page with list priceing for this boat on their site. You'd think with it's launch they'd have the info ready.

Won't argue with you on that point Brett, it really is one of the best looking boats I've seen in that Sport Coupe class...looking forward to seeing its performance characteristics...I guess with the nice opaque doors to the mid cabin yo can just load up your junk there and shut the doors....would look like my closet when I was a kid!!

The "shiny surface at the starboard stern is a grill.

Ah, good place for the grill, but that raises two questions. Where is the permanent storage location for that table and does the hose reach the grill area?

My single biggest complain about the 348 is a lack of proper storage space for the cockpit table and the canvas panels. I've seen plenty of other boats that fail to provide purpose-built storage for items like this. These are expensive items to replace and unless stored properly it's too easy to damage them.

There really does seem to be a failure to adequately take genuine USE of the boats into account when laying out the amenities. Not just from Four Winns either. Sail boats generally do a much better job in this area.

You would think on a boat that size, there would be a designated storage place for everything.

I was even wondering where you stow the main cockpit table on our new 318... looks like we may have a little isse there...

Got the V408 brochure yesterday from FW. It shows storage for the grill table under the grill, cockpit table under the rear U shaped seats( it appears), numerous cabinets and hidden cooler storage in the cockpit, closets and drawers in various location in the cabin (depending on configuration ordered). From the brochure, they appear to have storage concerns pretty much covered. Of course, boaters can come up with many items that just don't seem to fit in the right place on a boat, but overall, I think FW did a good job addressing this on the V408.

A couple of specs:

LOA = 43.6 feet
BEAM = 13.4 feet
DEADRISE = 19 degrees
FUEL CAPACITY = 300 gal.
DRAFT = 44 inches
APPROX BOAT & ENGINE WEIGHT = 25,000 to 25,500 lbs.
Power IPS 500 or IPS 600

So why is it that they do not have any info posted about this boat on their site...if the brochure is completed and in its first printing you would think they would have a new splash at fourwinns.com...

I don't have the answer, but most builders do the same thing with new models. It will be posted on the site very soon I'm sure.

Ooops, I forgot to add the third engine option, IPS 550, the new gas powered Volvo pod drive.
The galley looks impressive in the brochure, lots of counter space.

:!: Just got a 5 page press release from Genmar on the V408. I can post it if anyone is interested. It's a big file.

Here is an excerpt:

Quote:
The V408 is standard in all-white with a tapered hull accent gel stripe just above the water line, available in Black, Navy, Red, Driftwood Tan, Copper or Silver. Another option is the two-tone color format with a tapered hull accent gel stripe. New for 2009 are Pastel Yellow and Pastel Blue gel coat colors for a subtle and rich finish.

A color-matched canvas camper system, fabricated from top-quality, high performance Sunbrella fabric, is included as standard equipment, and converts the deck to a fully sheltered entertainment area for those breezy evenings on the water. The canvas system has been enhanced for 2009 with color-coded zippers that correspond to port (red) and starboard (green) for time-savings. And, a top frame mounting pin makes managing the bimini top even easier.

Thanks again for all the info Cap'n...the gas engine option should knock a few bucks off...I'm a Marketing guy and I've always pushed our folks to have a very tight and systematic launch strategy for new products...usually focuses around a major event...like a big boat show....where we would do everything to tie all the elements in together...pre-show PR and teasers, perfect samples for the show, dealer training, full press releases - all markets, web page or splash page, brochures, and well placed advertising, etc.

I'm sure that big ticket items like this create many issues regarding timeing around prototypes, photography, etc. that don't fit the perfect, tidy schedule.

Really do like the the way this boat looks....

Could have everything to do with not having the boat in warmer waters long enough to schedule picture taking.

Would love to see some more info if it's possible and thanks again for posting all of the pix! Maybe you've addressed this before, but why are you (thankfully) advanced all of this information?

The photo shoot pictures in the brochure, some of which I have posted above , are already done. No warmer climate needed. It's more of an IT department thing and getting all their ducks in a row to get it up on the web site. It was plenty warm here in Michigan where the pictures were taken on 10/12/08 and 10/13/08. It was about 78 degrees on lake Cadillac those two days.

Joe, you might be able to see the press release on the Genmar website, I can't access parts of it from work.
