I have the same concern. I guess the only way to find out is to take the strews out of the sump pump and see if anything comes through them. Sure don't want to drill a hole in the bottom of the hull. I might take a look this weekend.

Off-piste good video! Very interesting, I am hoping fire cadet is right and 268s have the pump on the hull not a false floor. Does seem like a terrible design.

I'm looking for someone to "take one for the team" with a v278. Drill the hole  and report back.

.........................I have a funny feeling it's gonna be me for some reason

I took the forward bilge pump out and no water came up through the screw holes.

I will post pics/video later tonite.

Of course I forgot to remove the table mount so that will have to wait til spring.

I checked all these areas in my 268 yesterday. Any water under the table mount would drain back to the forward bilge area. It doesn't look like there is any room between the forward bilge and the outside hull for water to gather.

In the engine room, what is under the shelf area where the batteries and water heater sit? Does anyone know if this is sealed or if there is a drain in case water gets in there?

Good to know about the forward bilge, thanks! Before I put mine away for the winter I stuck a garden hose in the forward v-berth storage compartment to flush the forward bilge out. It filled up the pump area in no time.

I believe the compartment under the genset and water heater are sealed as I have not seen a drain anywhere. I believe the trim tabs are screwed into this area as well.

Bringing this old thread back to the top.

Bone dry under my front cabin table mount, and no evidence that waters ever been there. Its empty, no false floor in there either, just an empty space that bottoms out at the hull.

Thought I'd do an update. I sealed the anchor compartment, I believe that was getting the front storage compartment wet. Got a few gallons in the front bilge this weekend, I think it's related to shower use. The shower sump pump works fine when testing it, I took it apart and checked the float. What happens, the float rises but not with enough force. The switch has just enough resistance to keep from clicking on. I'll probably be replacing it.

I ve tried to drill a hole in the bilge at the exact same point that people in this discussion already have drilled.Ive done it very slowly and i have managed to remove the wooden part of the floor. But i have encountered a bluish structure.I havent seen any cables like the ones shown in a video posted above.Has anyone encountered this structure? and if yes should I drill it? I am afraid that it might be enclosing the cables.
