In the wiring diagram, it looks like theres four wires not three. I ONLY mention this, because when you get to your boat, you won't be surprised. One way you can test it, turn your blowers on. Disconnect that plug, if it shuts off, it works. If not, than its wired wrong.

No, there are three wires that go to the pressure switch in the diagram (black, yellow/black and black/yellow) , the four wires go to the indicator light. Thats where the jumper would go in the bilge if there was no fire system installed.

But yea I could just unplug the connector too :)

Check out this link, it may or may not help.

What link?

This link, for what ever reason, the link did not take. http://www.fireboy-xintex.com/manuals/Inspection.pdf

and http://www.fireboy-xintex.com/manuals/C ... onMnlE.pdf

This will also give you the wight of the tank.

Thanks and my indicator lamp light at the helm is non-glowing. I know it was never discharged but I guess this means the pressure could be low (or the light is not functioning propertly).

Use of indicator lamp
• The Fireboy System indicator lamp is designed to announce to the
helmsman the state of the fire extinguisher when the ignition key is in the
ON position.
• A GLOWING green light indicates the Fireboy system is CHARGED.
• A NON GLOWING light indicates the Fireboy system is DISCHARGED.

Does your bilge blower work? What does the pressure gauge on the bottle[s] indicate?

On my '99 258v, I spoke too soon. It is, in fact, wired correctly.

The schematic in the owner's manual supplied with the boat (1994, said to be the most recent then) shows no Fireboy wiring - but the online schematic (1998-2000) shows similar wiring to that shown above.

I went and looked at mine to make sure, the light is glowing and the gauge is where it should be so I thought everything was OK.

Except I pulled the wiring out from underneath and the sensor is unplugged and the jumper is plugged in and stuffed into the harness. I took the jumper off and plugged the sender in and no light or blower. Took the bottle home and weighed it and its empty even though the gauge reads in the middle of the green line but the pressure sensor is open. So who knows what happened to the bottle, but for sure someone disconnected the pressure sensor and plugged the jumper in.

At least this thread made me go look closer at it and realize that I had no fire system, another 230.00, I'm just going to put a new bottle in.

Still getting to know my 2nd hand 255 Sundowner, and continually amazed at what I find in a relatively young boat (2006). The Fireboy CG2 installed in the engine compartment has a corroded neck on the bottle with surface cracks in it, corroded neck thread, and what looks like a pressure switch of some sort with badly corroded terminals. I'm obviously convinced that it needs replacing, but is it safe to handle to take it out wearing safety glasses etc? Anyone seen anything like this before? Pics at:

The green light on the dashboard is lit which shows OK, but I have my doubts. The bilge blower stopped working today, which has a common connection back to the Fireboy connector (Black/Yellow wire). The blower is fine as I tested that on direct 12v, but had to run a temp earth back to the engine to get it working temporarily with the switched active 12v from the helm switch (not ideal).

Thanks in advance for any advice/help on this

Looks like a leak, maybe, and subsequent rust and corrosion; the cracks appear to be in the paint due to a swelling bottle neck. It would probably be prudent to talk with Fireboy-Xintex.

I would probably be comfortable removing the bottle - with a good grip and careful pointing - just in case there is remaining pressure and the valve blows out. Mine has a gauge; does yours? I suppose it might not be trustworthy if it, too, is corroded.

thanks for the help on this. I have replaced the Fireboy with a new complete unit (100 cu ft instead of 75 cu ft as I couldn't source the latter).
I installed some SS flashing above the bottle to stop any salt water coming down on it between the engine hatch and the ski locker. I took away my temporary earth for the blower and reconnected the factory wiring back to the Fireboy pressure switch - all working fine :D
