Mike, are your light housings the same? I know that the 2003 era and up are the same, but wasnt sure about yours.

I am thinking of making this upgrade as well! Bliss, did you have to install a transformer or just pull the old bulbs and put the new ones right in? The Phillips ones seem so easy, but for the price of The one on eBay, you can re-fit the whole cabin.

Also, any suggestions for replacing the two fluorescent fixtures (galley and behind the mirror in the v berth)? I have a six year old that loves leaving the lights on....

Finally found the pictures from the led install! Installing these really is as easy as pulling out the Halogen bulb and plugging in the new led assembly. If I remember correctly these are polarity sensitive so if they don't come one when you plug them in flip the bulb in the socket.

Measuring the temp of the halogen pre install:

Remove light bezel and halogen bulb:

Install new led:

New temp reading:

And here is the side by side. The led's are on the left and halogen's on the right:

The led's look a little yellow in this pics but trust me it's hard to tell the difference in person. The halogen's are a little brighter but not by much and we find the warmth of the led's to be just right. I installed these in the spring and have had zero problems with the new led bulb's.

I used the same bulbs in my boat also and was very pleased with the results, they are cheap and very little draw as well

Do you need to modify the light housing to get these to fit?

No, they fit right in. Super easy.

Thanks. Just ordered 3 sets. No more worries if the kids leave the lights on anymore!

They arrived today. They'll go in next time I'm at the boat.

Finally got around to checking the led's that I bought off ebay. They do fit in my 2001, only issue I had was I had to trim the pins a little shorter.
Not sure who originally found them maybe Bliss but thanks for the link. What a money saver!!!

Saw this post and thought I could give it a try. Waited 16 days and for under 20$ Canadian, received 4 sets of 5 LED's. Installation took less than an hour, including trimming the posts. By the way, these work well in the 6 reading lamps in the 348 (pair at bow, beside couch and aft-cabin). In total, replaced 19 lamps including the head and have 1 spare + all the old bulbs.

Image

They appear yellow, and when lit, have a very slight yellow hue, but you would only notice if you did a side-by-side comparison.

Sorry for the less than stellar quality of the pictures below, as smart-phone photography of lights is challenging.

Image

I do not sense any reduction in overall light output and I certainly can vouch for a significant reduction in heat (and thus power consumption).

Image

Not sure why this blue tinge appears here (reflection of bedding perhaps), but the v-berth is plenty bright as well. A big benefit will be the energy saving when on the hook and "someone" forgets to turn the lights off!!

They look great! Glad they worked out good for you. I am going on over a year with these now, with zero issues and I am sure, many less dead batteries and heat. I have found several LED options that work really well in the cockpit area as well, like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271159907936?ss ... 1423.l2649 I am terrible for uploading pictures, but these worked amazingly around our arch. I have a track that was used for mounting the camper canvas (the camper canvas was replaced before I got the boat, so they are not used anymore) and they look great and are completely hidden to they eye until night time! They can be dimmed and are remote controlled. You can create the perfect mood lighting to use for cards or dining.

I had bought (4) 5-6packs of these from a CAN (or Chinese) vendor on ebay and had 2 packs which were aok, but 3rd/4th pack was mostly DOA units. For the cost, its worth it, but have to get another pack or two replaced/shipped.

I have a 02 Vista248 and have a few lighting fixtures which are stuck shut...no rust or corrosion visible, but trying to figure it out.

NJboater.

Mine were kind of tough to get the covers off of as well. Only because they are hard to grip. Just used some of the nonslip cabinet liner and a half twist, and the covers come right off.
