While that device will actively control electrolysis, it does not isolate the boat ground from the shore-power ground. Unlike the previous discussion of devices that do not require power to provide protection, that device requires DC power at all times the boat is wet.

So it's not behind the electric switch panel?
Cause my 220V inlet is on the outer side of the boat... The GI lights (green and red) are on the switch panel...

Is this what you're looking for?

On my 278 this is in back of the engine on the port side.

Well, maybe...
But I have those indicator lights on the electric switch panel in the cabin...
Where can I buy it?

The device in the photo is not a galvanic isolator, it is a impressed current cathodic protection system. It intentionally puts a charge on the outdrive to prevent corrosion.

The isolator allows small differences in ground to prevent corrosion and prevents large differences in grounds that can cause a shock hazard.

Now it's being more complicated...
Are there 2 different devices?
I think that I need the galvanic isolator... At least the red light is on and it says galvanic isolator there...
So where is that galvanic isolator located...?

Okay............. It's connected to the green wire from your shore power inlet. Trace the wire and ye shall find the GI. Should not be difficult to replace, and not too costly. While tracing the wire, play a copy of The Washington Post, or The Thunderer marches on your stereo to help ease your mind.
Search "Galvonic Isolater" on Google, and you will also find several you can buy to replace yours.

Best of luck to you.

Yes, two seperate devices

Suzafan, the galvanic isolator has to be near the shore power inlet or near the AC panel. It has to connect to shore ground. Below is a picture from the parts book for a 2005 258.

The impressed current device is in the engine room and does not connect to the indicator lights, it is not the galvanic isolator.

Pull the electric panel off. It should be behind it.Look for the green wire off of the panel and follow. The green light doesn't light up as well as the red. Look close at the green light. If you don't have a red i'll bet the green is on or the bulb is burned out
