More details on this new 2008 please. Power, equipment, price? We paid $207000.00 last year in VA for that boat with 6.2 Mercs with Sea core package. MSRP was in the neighborhood of 296000.

Given what a leftover 338 can be had for, I'd speculate that he didn't pay much over 180...

I had posted the details and pics in the 338 vs 358 thread...MSRP was closer to $320k ended up netting out just shy of 40% off. Our dealer in CT is really takeing care of all the small details...got us an extra 1/4 point off financing then the best deal we could find / negotiate (which was a 1/4 point off the best published price out there)...full tanks, name and hailing port on the boat, mounting my davits, etc. Boat has some nice high end options...Flexteek swim platform and cockpit, full hardwood in the cabin, enclosed mid cabin...

Looking to get in the water very early in April.

And I take it you have closed Joe (congrats if so)? Is the boat in S. Windsor?

Sure is going to be a great summer for a few of us new Vista owners!

Congrats to Joe... man - anything under 200k for that boat is a bargain.

I am very interested to see were you ended up on the 358, I have had a couple conversations with our local FW dealer about an upgrade to 2008 358 that he has in stock. It is loaded up very well, I am not sure which Volvo power it has but they are diesel inboards. He started asking for my 2008 V318 plus 50G with his sticker price of $260. That sounds fat so I am just kind of waiting right now to see if he comes back. The problem here right now is that all the winter people are in Florida and dealing is a little tougher. Any thoughts on price? He also has an 08 V378 joystick that is very nice and he is starting a $315 for that one. I would love to make that jump.

They're probably the 260hp D4 engines, as that's the only option the factory lists for it. As I recall, diesels are about a $50k price jump (which is ridiculous, imho).

Anyone here got one with diesels?

If you can go to a 358 with diesels for 50k plus your 318... That might be worth considering.

Offer him your boat and 35k and take it!

For the IPS 378 -- WOW. 315k? What's MSRP on that boat?

+1 on getting the diesels if you can on the V358. They are rare, yes it is a big price jump in MSRP but it's a great resale item in addition to the other benefits of diesel. I'm with Cougar on getting the cash layout down and really considering it assuming it is truly loaded (E series, autopilot, all the TV's, stainless windshield header). I would also encourage you to try to make the 378 happen. The difference in size will be much more noticeable, the performance specs are admirable and you would likely be getting into a boat you would be hanging onto for a longer period of time. You should have a good deal of leverage with leftovers and should be able to put together a deal that makes everybody happy.

Two things regarding upgrades. The payback cycle on diesels is often around 7 years. That's seven years before any savings in fuel costs will offset the ridiculously high premium they gouge for the engines. The value of diesel engines on resale is debatable. On larger vessels like a sedan bridge or something with a flybridge then gas engines will usually sell for less than one equipped with diesels. Oh, and don't forget that diesels are often heavier engines than gas. If I were buying anything larger than a 34' boat I'd certainly look at diesel power. But for an express cruiser under that size I'm not so sure. In the US it's not like diesel offers and price per gallon advantages lately.

Second, a larger vessel will often incur larger costs. Slip fees are often by the foot (your own marina and anywhere you visit). The same calculations apply for cleaning, waxing and painting it.

I'm certainly not trying to talk you out of anything, just be informed when you buy.

I have given my mechanic the go ahead to re-route my galley sink drain hose to go direct overboard. I think they are going to remove the fridge to get a better shot at the side of the boat. They estimate 3 hours, I think I could do it in less but we'll see. I am just wanting to do this so the shower sump works better.

Please report back on this with as many details as possible, particularly how far below the rub rail the thru-hull goes. I'm about six weeks from doing this and would love to benefit from your experience. Pix in and out would be great.

I am having trouble with pics. How did you get the image to be under 3kb for your signature? Also I have no idea how to put images in a post. I have tried photobucket but don't know which selection to chose.

Once you have an image uploaded to photobucket, copy the 'IMG Code' from the image you want to post and paste it into your post. It looks like a web address surrounded by [IMG} and [/IMG]. There is a pretty straight forward photo resizing function within photobucket. My signature image is actually 48kb. If it was 3kb it would be super tiny.

Yeah, what he said. I'd be interested in knowing the correct location. I may or may not do the same thing. Right now it doesn't bother me 'enough' to make the change. I'd be likely to change out the sump box first.
