248Vista,

Great photos of your install!

I need to see if I can get a manufacturer and part number off my blackwater tank and see if I can get that tank from someone other than FW and I also need to see if it will drop in from the top (I sure hope so). If not I will have to do a custom bladder. I am removing my 21 gallon pottable water tank and installing a tank where the grey water tank would go, for my pottable water. This will free up nearly all of the starboard side bilge shelf so I can install a genset.

Do you guys think I should grind the gelcoat out on the bottom, glass and resin in a marine ply blocker and gelcoat over it, to mount the seacock for the generator? It's going to be the same size seacock as the head and AC uses, I may go with a bronze integrated seacock with flange base.

I will have my work cut out for me when I start THAT project! I will have to redo the water fill, water vent and water supply lines for fresh water, drill a bottom thru hull and an exhaust thru hull, install an siphon break in the fuel tank and a 1/4 feed for the genset, wire in a transfer switch in the cabin plus a remote start pannel and tie in the Alternating Current system.. But it will be nice to have a 248 with a genset... I won't feel any compulsion to buy that 348 my dealer has for sale :)

Brett,

I thought I was crazy. :P Are you sure you don't want to just get a bigger boat?

Nope..

I went and looked at a 08 Chaparral Signature 290... BLAH! And the Vista I want, I can't trailer..

What's 6/7K for a Genset.. a new boat would cost me more :)

Very true, as long as you plan on keeping the 248 forever. Haveing a genset on
a pocket cruiser is not a big want for a potential buyer. If anything, it will scare a buyer away, knowing that the boat was not intended to have a genset. Kinda like putting a V8 in a Ford Pinto.

If'n you got 6 or 7K burning a hole in your pocket, go for it. You will no doubt enjoy haveing the genset, BOTH times per year you use it.

Sorry Captain, you are mistaken. A genset is a +10K on ANY boat... If it's a properly installed marine genset. And bear in mind the 248 has as much room in the bilge as the other narrow beam Vista's. Four Winns just chose not to offer it.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter, the Genset is for ME.
