FWIW, here are a couple of cruisers that might fit Bretts' criteria.

Monterey 290, very unique seating for entertaining in the salon. Convertible
mid berth as well. Good performing hull and excellent fit and finish. There was one
at last years's boat show, I was impressed. It does have twins however.

Rinker 300. Best bang for your buck out there. twins here as well. Take a look at
the Rinker 280EC. You can get a single 496 w/B3. You can find 2009's priced
starting at $79K.

Thanks for putting this info up Brett, and others. I'm quietly tire kicking myself.. well as much as I can while building a marina in North Dakota working almost around the clock. Maybe I can strike up a deal with Sierra so he can do the shopping and i can move into that 358 :)

Cougar,

I fell in LOVE with that boat when it was released! IMHO Doral hit a home run with a 26' hull (29LOA) with a big beam.. You can have it with twins and a gen set, or a single I/O and a genset (I'd rather have the single and get to make it more trailerable, it's still going to run 40 on the top end and that's fast enough) and it weighs slightly more than my 248!

I'm not saying I can't nit pick it... Not real fond of the center cabin companionway, I prefer the companionway to port like my Vista (makes the Mid Cabin easier to ingress/egress) the bow may be a bit tricky to walk on, looks like it may be roundish, and we know FLAT is the best thing for a foredeck.

Inside the cabin is great, with a nice round convertible setee and a useable head (unlike my 248) I can barely use my head for anything. Sure a 13 year old girl might have all the space in the world in my head, but I'm a horse.... :)

I have an email in to Doral to see what the deal is with this hull, why I can't find them on the market and if Doral is backed up with these things, cut me a deal! :) 99K isn't bad!

I'll thank you not to give me an excuse
I am actually excited about beginning my first season in three years without dealing with delivery, shakedown and the season-long fine-tuning of a new boat. As exciting as taking delivery of a brand new boat can be, as Cougar and others will attest, it is quite consuming and, at times, stressful (happy problems, I know). This year I'll have lots more time to just relax and enjoy! That said, I'm always toying with "what's next," but Four Winns hasn't seen fit to contact me about potential interest in a V408 or V458. That's one place I give the Sea Ray marketing department a lot of credit - they are proactive with their top-tier customers. But like I said, I'm not looking for an excuse to look right now!

Dealer just called back, the Venezia is still available, 103K delivered to my door, on a NextRail alloy tandem trailer.

That's loaded, single engine (5.7) 5K Kohler Genset, Windlass etc etc etc...

I'm thinking this may be the one... Gonna put the 248 up on ebay tonight and maybe the boat trader.

Sounds AWESOME!

Yeah.

Don't like it.

That's a sleek lookin' boat. It's definitely got some features that will treat you like. This is a great example of FW missing a market segment with this size/layout of boat. But - maybe Brett is one in a million buyers!

Good luck. That boat really seems to fit ALL of your needs.

They weren't interested in a trade on your 248 huh?

What don't you like? Honestly give me your thoughts!

Nope they don't want a trade in. They claim to be losing 15K as is.

That's the demo boat they used in Florida for the 08' Miami Show Debut. At least it looks like it is the same boat.

http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2008- ... a-90984241

The same dealer had the boat on their website last January before the show. The demo boat was run hard last Feb. at the show. Our salesman went out for a ride, and he told me that.
It might just be a similar looking boat to the one at Miami though. Good Luck !! :!:

Four Winns has already been there and done that segment with the 278 Vista from 1994 thru
1998. We have 3 friends in our marina with these 278's.

Ask your buddies at Winni why FW discontinued the wide beam 278. I would be interested to hear what they say.
