Yes Michael it is a great spot, the only downside is the scale of the area.

Once you are out on the water the closest marina to visit is about 50 nm away on Hamilton Island......The island featured in the recent "worlds greatest job comp" advertising campaign.

So anchoring up in sheltered coves on the surrounding island is the only way to go ....... really tough sitting on the back in a glassed out bay with maybe one or two other boats (in total) having a cold beer as the sun goes down !!!!

On of my favourites (apart from the standard Whitehaven beach etc) is an island called Scawfell about 35 nm ENE of Mackay...if you get a chance check it out on google earth.. Moored in the northern bay (Refuge Bay) is perfect - surrounded by coral bommies with fish everywhere.
