Hello,

Re: 2000 Four Winns 268 Vista

It sounds like a pretty simple fix. Does anyone know where the water pump is located and how to clean it out?

Thanks!

What engine?

If a volvo penta the raw water pump/impeller is mounted to the engine on the bottom starboard side of the boat. Remove the two hoses attached to the back, then loosen the 2 bolts that hold the pump on, remove the belt from the pulley, and remove the two bolts allowing the pump to come out. REALLY simple.

While you have it out replace the impeller as it is fairly inexpensive and incredibly easy to do. If your old impeller looks like it is still in good shape I would move on to the thermostat housing as the next possibility.

On my 2000 248 it is behind the fresh water tank, starboard side right at the back pain to get to

On my boat there's a shutoff valve just after the hose comes out of the tank. You'll need another person or a whittled cork. Take the hose off the valve fitting and either have the other person thumb the hose or shove the cork in. Then you can disassemble the valve assembly which includes a screen. My screen had a ton of plastic tailings from the holes drilled in the tank.

Try searching on fresh water pump - there are several posts.
