I know this has been reviewed and discussed in other threads, but I'd like to know if there's a fix to get a fuel guage to work again. My port gas tank fuel guage is fine and I use this to estimate what remains in the Stbd. Fuel tank since i fill-up both to approx. the same level and assume both engines consume the same when operating. The "defective" guage always shows FULL. I tried drawing only from that tank to see if it would drop and it will not move.could the sender be removed and cleaned ? Could it be stuck ? Is there a float type device that feeds the level information to the guage ? My next step could be to "swap" the guages on the helm and see if it might only be the guage that is defective. Any other suggestions.

Touli.

As the previous poster stated it could be the gauges, but on my old Sea Ray, when the fuel tank stopped working I replaced the sending unit and that fixed the problem. If you want before replacing the sending unit, you could remove it and see if it is indeed stuck in any one position.

NiagaraChillin, it is a 2005 vista 378....not sure who manufactures the guages on there. I guess checking on the senders as Jayjay recommended will be an "off-season" job.

Not sure where the access to the tanks is on your boat, but when I changed out the sending unit on the Sea Ray, I did it while the boat was in the water. Took less than a half hour from what I remember. Of course that was a 21 ft boat so I'm sure the setup is very different on a boat your size.
