of course things always go wrong when you need them most. So was the case, off for the labor day weekend to camp out with many other boaters in a far-away secluded, behind an island nature preserve. totally loaded down with beach toys, firewood, etc. etc. 2 adults three kids and a dog. Counting on generator for hot showers, a/c etc.
fired up generator and looked at water output (we always do, learned lesson about clogged strainer/fried impeller). Admiral shutdown and she quickly checked strainer (although had to tear up bed that was already made). Strainer clean. ??? Weird, ok maybe we lost an impeller. Because i had spare on board decided to leave dock on trip and check when we got there. After arrival, able to open engine compartment, check impeller. Impeller fine! ????
Only think it could be either pump shot (but it sounded ok), or we have block in line somewhere. couldnt fix at sea. So we ran generator all weekend and the thing never shutdown despite low flow.!!! but caused us stress.
Just troubleshot this weekend on dock. pulled hose from seacock off strainer. opened seacock, almost no water coming out. worse is that we immediately filled boat with fould dead fish smell!!!! hooked water hose from dock., opened seacock and flushed. for two seconds big pressure buildup then whatever stuck blew out.
put back together and ran great, lots of flow!!!!
Lesson: The generator intake on these FW really sucks. way too aggresive. Never ever have problem with A/C intake yet runs 10x more. also now know of another thing to check re low flow. wonder how long I was having prob and what was in there? Also I have a great admiral, she knows how to access and clean strainer!
