Discussions by obsessive owners for keeping bilges perfectly dry are quite common - that last inch or so of water that centrifugal bilge pumps leave behind is the issue. Here is my solution. The inlet for the pump goes down to the lowest point of the bilge, the outlet goes to a connector in the drain pipe from the cockpit entertainment area sink. It does not replace the usual bilge pumps. ![]() |

I use one of these: ![]() Only had to use it once this summer on the bilge to get that last inch out. Stayed dry after that. Also works great for keeping ducks and gulls off of swim platforms and docks. ![]() |

Nice! Did you drill and install another through hull or did you somehow tie into an existing discharge line? If so how? |

"Nice! Did you drill and install another through hull or did you somehow tie into an existing discharge line? If so how?" The black horizontal pipe you can see in the photo is the same diameter as the drain that runs down from the cockpit sink to the through-hull fitting. I cut the drain pipe and spliced in a T fitting. I would have preferred a Y fitting but haven't found one yet. It all works fine as is - the sink does not dump water in the bilge and the water from the pump does not work its way up in to the sink. The diaphram pump seems to work as a one-way valve and it has its own (small) filter. I will modify it further if any issues arise. |
