I have major corrosion issues on my Volvo DP drive. Need to have blasted and re painted. Any idea what could be causing it and what I should paint it with?

Magnesium anodes ( fresh water) were pretty well eaten up. I have had this problem for the past 3 years, but this year was worse by far.

May want to consider changing them half way thru the season.

Is anyone else around you having issues, could be an issue of a boat having stray currents.

Make sure all the bonding wires that connect up all the individual casings are still attached and in good shape. There should be electrical continuity for the whole drive ( and transom shield). if not, the anodes will not protect the isolated items,

Also, there should be electrical continuity between the anodes and the drive; I check mine each year when I replace the anodes (I have the OP active corrosion protection system; my anodes usually last at least 2 six month seasons in salt water )

Happens. Change anodes when they wear out.

Are you using a battery charger or other shore power connection? If so, you might be causing your own stray current corrosion. If not, you could be getting stray current corrosion from a nearby boat, or metal parts of the dock itself (or dock wiring)

Look up "Stray Current Corrosion" online, as the explanation and solutions are to lengthy to put here. Without stray current corrosion, I don't think there's anyway your anodes could get eaten up that fast in fresh water.

I have been in the same slip for 13 years and it is the last 3 that I have had a problem. Everyone's anodes took a beating this year but no one had corrosion like I have. I'm on shore power all the time a leave the battery charger on. I do have an isolator installed.
