Good evening - we are looking hard at a couple of 268's. I am concerned that with a full load - 8 adults - the 5.7 would be working pretty hard - there is one with a 7.4 - another with an 8.1 that we rather like ( one with a 5.7 we like too ) - any comments on the relative performance of each ? We are looking in the 2001- 2006 range thanks |

In a boat that size I vote for the big block. I'm stealing someone else's advice when I say this, but no one ever complained that they bought too much engine. ![]() |

Welcome to the forum!! You can't go wrong with the big block! The big block actually gets better mpg in this boat, and if you are going to have that many adults on board you WILL need the 8.1 to get on plane. We have the 5.7 on our 268 and have had trouble getting on plane with 6 adults ![]() |

+1 on the big block on the 268. Our 268 works hard to get on plane with a full load. In most cases, the 5.7 has enough power for us. |

+2 on the Big block, it will work less harder than the small block |

Thanks for the quick and helpful response - now we will see if there is a meeting of the minds on price. BTW- I expected that someone would have said that it's not the size of the block - its how you handle the throttle ![]() |
