Hi, this is my first vista. I have a deposit on a 1998 238 vista that is very clean and low hours (208). I will be using this boat as a family boat for the girl and the kids, seems to have plenty of room for some overnights. How does this boat ride in 2-3FT chop? around docks etc... I am waiting for the weather to get a little warmer for a sea trial. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Chris

Chris,

Welcome to the family! I have a 1996 238 Vista and I boat on a very large lake (Lake Mead) and have seen 2-3ft chop and have had no problems. My vista seems like a tank through anything but wind. When it gets windy she is kind of like a big sail and the wind will blow me all over the place. Where will you be boating?

As for the docks, I think she handles just great I can launch solo with minimal difficulty (I do have to get wet though) and bringing her back in is almost as easy (Unless there is strong winds). I think she has a great layout plenty of space and a lot of thought went into where to store things.

I boat with my admiral and our three children (16, 4, and 1) and usually have a few more on board for the ride. No worries.

We kind of have a rule here, you must post pictures.

Congrats on the new purchase!

Anybody know how to get the color back on the side of the boat? Decals seems to be faded, will a good wax job do it? Thanks

Take it to a good shop and have her buffed out and waxed. After that normal washing and usually 2-3 coats of wax a year.

Congrats on the boat! I have a '96 238...it is a great boat...even in a 2-3' chop. We boat in Long Island Sound. I've crossed from CT. to L.I. several times in a nice chop-- boat handles it extremely well... As for overnighting- there's me, admiral and 2 young teenagers...it's cozy for the four of us, but doable for an overnight......What engine/drive do you have?
As for the faded color- get some 3M Color/Gloss restorer, then follow up with a good wax job....that's what I do every year.

Good luck and have fun!!

3m medium buffing for really faded or wetsand first. Gel coat is thick you can't hurt it. The 3m marine stuff isn't strong enough if chalky. It will come out like brand new. High speed buffers are cheap from harbor freight. Mine has lasted 3 seasons
