To the 248 owners......where do you hang your rear fenders from? I hang one on the bow rail (each side), but there is really no place to hang any fenders toward the stern of the boat. The mid cleat is just below the start of the bow rail, so that does me no good. The rear cleat is too far to the rear of the boat to hang it on, plus I use that cleat to tie up at the dock. I used to hang the rear fender from the bimini pole, but that only caused the permanent hardware to rip out of the rear of the windscreen rail, which I then had to replace! So , where do you guys hang your rear fenders????

Did you install that cleat yourself? My boat did not come w/ one in that location (its a 2006). The only rear cleats are on the stern just left of the little door to the deck (on the port side) and slightly above the swim platform.

I just use the aft and mid cleats and I also use a 1/2 and 3/8" docklines on the same cleat w/o any issues. But I do like that cleat Brett has - I was actually going to email you about it when I was perusing your pics. Any chaffage going on at the edge there? Just seems like the rope could chaff (sp?) the gelcoat over time?

I've not noticed any chafing yet. If I would have had the say so on the cleats I probably would have mounted them slightly more outboard.

I use these. They are permantley mounted to the hull just above the Four Winns Logo. I then have a small rope with the ring attached, so when we dock I just whip it out, and hook it up. It's real easy. Now I know most people get nervous about permantely altering the hull with screws, but these are well worth it.

We used suction cup hangers. Stick on like crazy and you can position them anywhere needed.

thanks for all the ideas...the suction cup one looks the easiest. think I will try that first and see how it works before I start drilling any holes.....

I had the same problem with my older 278. Just last Friday, I installed pop-up cleats in pretty much the same location as Brett did, except that I moved them out as far as I could.

They are nice in that they look great and are much less of a safety hazzard, but are expensive ($92/pair w/shipping from Overtons) and do require a fairly 1"x3" oval to be cut in the gunnel, and that's in addition to the two .5" holes for the mounting studs. They didn't come with backing plates, which I fab'd out of extra aluminum I had around the shop.

I would recommend adding the backing plates to anyone installing cleats even though the intent is to just hold fenders. If you ever tie a dock line off to it, intentionally or not, at least you won't run nearly as much risk of damage.
