Wondering if any 268/278 Vista trailer owners can tell me what the bunk heights are on a factory FW trailers. I am looking at different aftermarket trailers, and am concerned what my overall height of boat will be on the new trailer because of the radar arch. Specs indicate overall height of my boat (Vista 278) on a FW trailer to be 13'6".

It would be much appreciated if anyone could help.

Thanks, Rod

Hey Rod,

I have a 2006 V278 with a Four Winns trailer. It's stored over at my marina for the winter (the boat is lifted under the covered slip). I can check for you next weekend if that's not too late.

The outer bunks are at 9 inches from the top of the frame to top of the bunk.

kroache, next weekend would be fine, thanks.

lazyCAT, thanks, that helps, now just need to know how high the frame sits off the ground.

The measurement I am looking for is from the top of the outer bunk (highest mounted bunk) down to the ground with the trailer fairly level. The bunks on some of the aftermarket trailers I have looked at seem to be sitting quite high, so not sure if my overall height is going to be an issue or not.

Any numbers you can provide would help.

Thanks again, Rod

Measuring between the wheels : the bottom of the frame sits 15 inches of the ground. Frame itself is 5 inches, then another 9 inches to the top of the outer bunk.

Hope it helps.

Finally bought a new trailer!

http://www.TuffTrailer.com
T6 aluminum frame, galvanized crossmembers, stainless hardware, 2 speed winch, LED lighting, tandem axle, electric over hydraulic disc brakes, Vault oil bath hubs, 8500# capacity, fully adjustable, $7600.

Built in Ferndale, Washington, and also has a sales yard on the Canadian side near me, so purchase was made easy not having to deal with the border.

One of my biggest concerns was my overall height on an aftermarket trailer. The overall height on the factory FW trailer was 13'4". On the new trailer, I am sitting at 13'2", and i can lower the boat another 2" yet, which I may still do. Arranged with my marina to have my boat lifted out of the water and we "fitted" the trailer to the boat. Wasn't totally happy with the bunk placement due to thru hulls etc., but Tuff Trailer worked with me to address my concerns, requested pictures of the boat on the trailer with measurements, had suggestions, and supplied me with another set of bunks and hardware at no charge. All good now.

That's a pretty impressive looking setup you've got there :)

Now you need to park the empty trailer in your basement (just to be safe :))
