Post subject:  Headliner Removal

Anyone removed the headliner in a 328 or similar? I have a soft spot in the deck around the windlass buttons that I'm considering fixing from below so I don't have to mess with the non-skid. To to this I'll have to remove the headliner over the forward berth, but I can't recall seeing how this might be done. Also if anyone has any tips for re-coring from below, I'm very open to suggestions. The area is probably 12"x24" that needs to be repaired.

No one? Am I the first to remove the headliner? I was hoping to get some pointers so I didn't wreck the material.

I've been waiting to hear too. Have to replace my spotlight and trumpet horn (again). Fortunately, found a wireless remote spotlight but still have to swap out the horn.

I tried to pull my headliner down but gave up. I can't remember but I think the aft part of the headliner had some metal clips and some industrial hook & loop fasteners. I'll look at in again this weekend and take some pics. The forward over the V-berth I think is glued in place.

No need to mess with the headliner for the horn. Just unscrew the horn from the deck and pull the wire out until you reach the connection. Mine was connected using crimp on butt splice connectors. I removed them and soldered the new horn's wires to the boat wires and covered with heat shrink tubing. Pushed the wires back in the hole and sealed everything with 3M 4200.

Check this out before you buy a new horn: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9801&hilit=horn
I think I could have fixed mine had I seen this thread before I replaced it.

Thanks Jeff, I'm going to try the pull push method first, but if I remember correctly, I didn't have much slack to work with. I already have the new trumpet, but will give the repair a try and keep (just in case)!

Thanks Jeff - if you do get pictures I would love to see them. That sucks if they glued the headliner in, that wont make my repair from underneath possible at all.
