First of all, hello! Been lurking around here for awhile and have gotten some much needed information already. I really appreciate those that take the time to help!

I did however, come across a problem I can't seem to figure out either on my own or through searching this forum. I am upgrading the cockpit speakers in a 07 358 and can't seem to find the amplifier to make a few adjustments. I opened the electrical panel and judging from the blue glow that goes on and off with the 'amplifier' breaker I am assuming it's in there. Although, can not figure out how to access it. Any ideas?

My 2007 Vista 358's clarion amplifier is located in the cabinet with the vacuum cleaner and a/c unit, which is located behind the stairs. Remove the 4 screws that hold the panel onto the cabinet and remove the panel (disconnect the vacuum switch wiring while pulling away from cabinet). The amplifier is mounted to the wall, on the right side of the opening. You may need an inspection mirror to see the switches and potentiometers that control various aspects of the amp. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I actually had a couple of those screws loosened and then decided before I had the whole boat apart I would ask here. I'll take a look at it later today.

I have an '09 358. The amplifier is installed behin the sofa. Pull off the backrest cushion closest to the electrical panel and its right there.

What are your upgrade plans?

If it's like my 348 then it's down under the stairs along with the AC equipment.

Words of advice on cockpit speaker 'upgrades'.... don't bother.

You won't really end up with better audio quality. That and no two speaker manufacturers use the same mounting hole pattern or size. So if you're prepared to get the same level of crappy audio fidelity (note I didn't say volume) then by all means break out the wallet and spend away.

But, honestly, if it's volume you're after then rethink it. Cranking it loud just annoys the hell out of everyone else and sound carries far over the water. That and there's no good way to get it loud enough to hear over the engines when underway. I'd love to hear some music while I'm running the boat. But short of putting couple of speakers on pods somewhere on the helm console there's just no good way to do it. You end up deafening/annoying everyone else.

Then there's the quality argument. Speakers are going to rot out. Expensive ones often quicker than cheap ones. Better to plan on replacing the mediocre Clarion's cheap every few years instead. Especially if you find a deal on them cheap... stock up. Because even if you go out and put in some 'better' speakers you're still going to have to deal with the reality that the open area of a boat cockpit just plan stinks for anything remotely resembling audio fidelity.

Me, I've got a ton of other places in my life where I can squander money. Speakers on the boat aren't anywhere near the top of the list.
