So I just picked up the 36 quart cooler for our 268 Vista and was wondering if anyone has ever made a cooler drain that is routed overboard. I was thinking of tapping one of the cockpit drains on the port side and running a 1/2 tube to where the cooler is. Then it will drain automatically and not soak the carpets. Has anyone out there done this? |

Has anyone out there done this? Sounds like a great idea. I've always wondered why the marine cooler comes without a drain. Is that to prevent it from coming open and possibly soaking the boat? I'm always needing to turn mine over sometime during the weekend to drain out the water. Draining the cooler overboard would make it a lot handier. |

So anybody purchased a 12 volt cooler and plugged into the Cigar lighter right beside the cooler platform ? Seems like it was meant to be! ![]() |

I only drain water if space is an issue. Or sloshing out. The water is a 100% coverage area on the drinks. Ice is 65% surface area. Beverages actually stay colder in cold ice water because of the greater surface area coverage of cooling material. I have a cube and a Colman xtreme 5 day 128qt for tailgating it will hold solid ice for 3-4 days with all day sat open and close all day. But I don't ever drain off water unless it is sloshing out. |

Lt Dan... I found the cooler at West Marine online. It was about $42 and had it shipped to the store for free. The 36 quart is the perfect size. I also got the bungees at a semi-local Four Winns dealer. I agree that the ice water provides better cooling, but it would be nice to put a small valve on the tube to limit the draining at whatever pace you want. |

Sam's club has a steal on marine coolers right now. Like $60 for all 3 sized igloo |

Do they have a 36 qt? I saw they had a three cooler combo with the 48 qt and 2 smaller ones inside, but my Sams doesnt have the 36. Is it a regional thing? |

I bought mine there with the water cooler and the other size cooler holds almost a 12 pack. Also came with a water cooler jug. Out the door it was about $40 here in Ohio. I dont know if they raised the price or if Ric's Sams is more expensive. |

By the way, the 36 quart fits in my cooler spot perfectly without using the bungies. The lid opens just the right amount and there is no worry of the cooler slipping out of place while underway. |

By the way......I misstated that one, it was a 48qt and it was $30 for the three pack. It fits snug in its appropriate place. |
