Hi, My 358 2008 is now on water, finally. I notice some water coming from the drain plug. I used a Pela Pump to dry my bilge then once it dry dry dry, I look inside the drain plug (from the engine room) and notice water. after 2-3-4-5-6min then I saw a thin water input. Where this water come from ? bellows, nah. sterndrive transom gasket ? hum.. Any idea ? Is there a transom diagram somewhere on internet ? thanks |

I put my finger inside the drain plug hole (from the engine room) and discover other vent in the hole. My water insertion does not come from the drain plug bolt. any good FWinns dealer suggestion for a phone call ? |

From where water can enter on sterdrive ? Belows , gear cable, engine water cooling system input, sterdrive seals (between transom and sterndrive) other place ? 4liters per hour , grrr... |

Check the tightness of the bolts holding the transom shields to the transom; if loose, water can get in, Also check the water inlet hoses from the transoms to the power steering fluid coolers to the raw water pump. Worst scenario is a leak at the exhaust Y piece to transom seals. Check the bolts there. if the leak is there and the bolts are tight, I believe it is an engine out job to cure it, but I hope I am wrong. |

Thanks Graham, I do not think its an exaust belows issue because I ran both engine and saw water coming the drain plug hole. If water come from exaust bellows it should not enter when it run. its a 2008 358, its very recent, never run on salt water. water do no come from any engine part (raw water inlet or other place ,its dry dry) it come from the drain plug. When I put my finger inside the hole there is a small hole where the water come from. My friend has a 318 2008, but im not able to reach the drain plug from the engine room. I will like to see he has the same hole in the drain plug. Boat will get out water in 2weeks only. I hope the mechanic guy will find my problem, its not evident to troubleshoot this problem outside water, this is why im asking everybody for comments. |

No, I don't mean the bellows. I mean the connection from the exhaust Y piece to the transom within the engine compartment, which is very low down. The drain plug assembly is screwed onto the transom, usually 3 screws, with a sealer. There should not be any holes near it in the transom ( either on the inside or the outside). The way you describe the hole, hopefully they didn't drill through when fitting the transom drain assembly, got it wrong and plugged the incorrect hole; which may now have failed. You will need to check very carefully that the transom is not wet; it may well contain wood. |

Graham , You touch a good point ; (There should not be any holes near it in the transom ( either on the inside or the outside). Me too im pretty sure no hole must exist inside the drain plug hole. Believe me when I put my small finger inside it (drain plug) I can touch a hole and also see water coming from there. (with a Pela Pump a pump all water then you can see it coming from that hole) question : if I fixed the small hole ,that will stop my leaking problem. But is it normal to have water coming from there if there is a hole ? Imagine that ; You take a 1/8drill and create a hole inside your drain plug tunel, Should you get water coming in? My answer is no, if there is water coming that mean there is water in the transom. and that water come from somewhere. Maybe its design for 358 FW only? Any idea |

One other place to look is the mounting of the trim tabs. Those screws do penetrate the hull but are not seen. FW had our dealer redo those points when we had a water migration issue. That water could be leaking in between the hull and the engine compartment liner. |

I have never looked that closely at the drain plug and the flange it screws into. I imagine though , the flange screwed onto the transom doesn't have an extension that protrudes through the transom into the bilge. In which case the hole in which you can feel an extra hole is in the transom itself. If that is the case, water is getting into the transom. all you can do whilst it is on the water is to check that all transom bolts are tight. |

how many bolts on transom for Volvo duoprop sterndrive ? I only saw 2 big lock bolts per sterdrive from the inside . I can not imagine a 2008 could have a leak from there. If there is a gasket on transom is it a big job to change it completely? |
