| I have twin inboard Merc Cruiser where the serpentine belts seem to be wearing out quickly Port Engine had 2 replaced in 1 month. Installer did not install the second one correctly My question is this. Is there any alignment issues with these pulleys once you replace the belts. Seems strange the wear when I am only putting about 20-30 hours on each engine per season. Thanks | |

| You answered your own problem in the question. Only 20-30 hours a year does more damage than 200 a year. Rubber hates sitting idle, especially belts. You can you try a better quality belt like Goodyear gatorback. Let a car sit and only drive it 1200 miles a year and see what happens. After about 2-3 years of that it's ready for the junkyard. I would also take a good look at all your rubber hoses and check for dry rot/cracks. Squeeze them around clamps and bends you'll probably find hair line cracks and they will all need replacing. If you don't have the ability to boat more, have a friend/marina start it up and run it for an hour every couple weeks. Run all the systems, flip all the switches. Any/all little running issues that might arise or have happened will disappear. | |

| Any oxidation on the pulleys themselves? Often surface rust on the pulleys turn them in big belt sanders causing premature wear on the belts. | |

| Check your pulleys for wear. Rust or feel the sides of them make sure they are smooth as a baby's....... If not take some emery cloth and see if that help if not replace the pulley(s) in question | |

| +1 on checking the pulleys. Also check that the pulleys don't have any old belt left in the grooves had that problem with my truck went through two belts before I noticed the build up in the grooves. Check the tensioner pulley just to make sure the bearings are still good and it turns freely. | |
