Alright on my 2001 248 in the engine compartment above the fire extinguisher there are 2 rubber clips that hold a rod of some sort. They are roughly 3 ft apart......what goes here? If we can't figure it out ill get pics tonight. Thanks Rick |

It's to carry a standard stainless steel pulpit flag pole to display international maritime signal flags such T (Tango) "Keep clear I am engaged in pair trawling" and Z (Zulu) "I need a tug". ![]() ![]() |

I was told my Nav light pole goes there. but I don't think that is true. Tried to put it there and it doesn't fit. It is too long. Besides do you really want to have to open the engine hatch everytime you need to use the light? On the boat the other day I was taking the mooring cover off and got to thinking maybe the pole for that could be stored on those clips. I'm going to try it this weekend. |

In my boat, I have a pole stored there that is a safety support for the engine hatch. There is a round hole cleat on the floor and engine hatch that the pole sits in as another safety precaution to the hydraulic lift. |

I have other clips in my starboard bow storage which I would expect to be for my anchor light pole, but alas, the pole is too long to fit there.... My anchor light pole lives in the ski locker, which I dislike. |

Well, I guessed the engine cover support pole as my Sundowner has one (plus the 2 bits of plastic it fits into). Just why it has one is a mystery to me; the engine hatch lifter is not hydraulic, it is a worm and screw mechanical arrangement; the mechanical part of the lift mechanism can't fail and allow the cover to drop unless all the teeth have worn away ( in which case, it wouldn't lift it anyway)! |

It is the engine hatch cover support pole. I'll be in mine tomorrow and can post a pic. Too much on top of the cover to get in it now and the admiral is fixing margaritas....duty calls ![]() |

If I take my engine hatch lifter to its maximum height it is then possible to gain a few more inches by lifting the hatch manually and latching the ram. This does need a bit of additional support to be safe. |

Per fourwinns the clips are for the stainless steel engine hatch prop. |

As previously answered correctly.......it is a stainless pole that fits into those rubber holders........and the 2 plastic blocks on the engine cover and the floor of the bilge area are the receivers for that stainless pole (AKA prop rod)...... ![]() ![]() |
