Want to find a good hand held vacuum cleaner to use in the boat when on shore power to suck up beach sand off the bare floor and cabin carpet.
Any suggestions on a good powered unit that works well and isn't to monstrous for storing?

I picked up a 12v one at bass pro shops. Works really good.

I have a small wet/dry vac I run off my inverter. It lets me get the last bit of water from the bilge, and the sand out of the carpets

+1. I use a small wet dry vac as well. Keep it in the dock box and I can get both dirt and water sucked out from the bilge after a good thorough washing.

We use the Dyson handheld animal. That thing works great. down fall is it takes 3 hrs to charge and only last 10 min on max power, but my wife seems to really like it. we also have a golden retriever and need it to suck up the fur from him. I also keep a small wet vac in the dock box to suck up water that may get into the bilge

We have two of these and love them. Why do we have two? Received two as housewarming gifts and the first one worked so good, we never wanted to return the second, lol. Ours dont have all the pipe attachments, just the spinning beater bar brush attachment (not pictured):

I picked up a Black & Decker rechargeable unit that works really well. Also have a 1 gallon Shopvac wet/dry.

Whatever you do, don't get the DeWalt 18v cordless one. It's JUST WAY TOO DAMNED LOUD. That and it's tiny bucket doesn't hold much. In all, not one of my better purchases.

We've got a Shark Pet Perfect II - it does a nice job, especially with all the dog hair we tend to accumulate over a weekend, and the battery life seems to be pretty good. It doesn't have a 12v charger that I know of, though.
