Hi,

I always have water in my half cabin case (where is also located the AC and Gen water input) after a big rain or a big wash.
Where it enter?

I can not figure out. Anchor ? everything seem correctly seal.

Last week I vaccum all water, it was dry dry dry.
Then I washed the boat with a lot of soap.
Next day after I check in my half cabin, Water ! water with soap. What ?

Any idea where it can enter?

I have read on the vistas (and other models), any of the window seals could do it. Unsure if you're referring to a 248/268 with a window on the rear berth or not.

People have mentioned to tighten the seals via screws on the windows.

Unsure if that'll help.

We have also had water enter through the seals on the windows. It takes a small screw driver, but you can tighten the latches. As for the mid cabin water.....I think that is what the OP is referring to, I dont know what could cause that! I get water through the anchor locker into the front bilge for sure and into the storage compartments under the V birth. I would like to know how to stop that from happening.

After a rough day my hatch screws get loose and leak. Gotta check em monthly.

Which model/year boat?

Hatches and port holes are certainly obvious places to check. Make sure they're actually sealing up tight.

Look into your anchor locker and make sure it's drain isn't blocked. If it's blocked then it can fill up and eventually spill over into the forward cabin area. One sure way to check it is pay out all of the anchor rode and then run some water into the locker. You should immediately see water coming from a drain up on the side of the hull near the locker. If you don't see water then it's possibly blocked. Different models require different steps to gain access that locker area.

Then start taking a close look at all of the rails or handles. See that they're not loose or shifted allowing for water to get in.

And remember water runs downhill. It may travel some distance down from the leak(s) before you find it.

Don't mean to hijack the original OP's thread but hutch9900...the following link discussed the anchor locker leaking along with some other water issues on your V278 and other similar models

I had a V258, that leaked too after the first big storm. I did find the 2 sources if any one wants to know.

Paul I have a 258 as well and I've been getting seeing the carpet getting pretty wet recently. I'd be interested in knowing where you found it coming in from.

At the helm, on the left side were the step meets the helm. Between the two, its not sealed. So if you look under the helm, you will see part of that step and a hole for the wires to the radio. What happens is that the rain water goes down the left side of the helm, them enters that seam and then drips into the hole were the wires come from into the mid ship cabin. I pulled the radio out and it was all wet with water dripping on the bed. That same water was fulling up the dome light. If it did not rain so HARD, I would have never found it so quickly and I am sure I would have had a mold problem!

On the right side of the helm, water will run down and follows the cables from the fuse box to the helm. Thats why there is so many problems with that fuse box.

Just seal both sides of the helm. I was going to change out that box and mount a breaker panel under the helm. A lot of work, but I kept loosing power to lights, pumps, radio ...... But I sold the boat before I had a chance to do it.

Thanks for posting that! I will have to try caulking the anchor locker as you stated in that thread. Just out of curiosity, did you just caulk the entire area below the drain holes in the anchor locker?

Yes, that's correct. I would get water in the v-birth storage even when I would wash the boat (water from the hose draining into the anchor locker). The previous owner didn't even realize this was happening so I discovered a lot of water under the storage area and also under the table stand. Not the most pleasant smell after it was sitting for many months. Since caulking the anchor locker it has been dry (I check it often just to make sure).

It's a little awkward to get the caulk gun down into the bottom of the locker but it doesn't have to look pretty....just make sure you get all the corners. I pulled out the anchor rode and left it out for a couple of days just to make sure the caulking was good and dry before putting it all back.

Just a small thing we ran into - water was running down the channel from under the front window - and was supposed to run out of the small slot just to the right of the throttle handle. This was plugged and rain water was overflowing and ended up dripping into aft cabin somehow. Cleared the obstruction - no more water - it ran out the way it was designed.
