1994 Four Winns Vista, 5L Fords Volvo SX Drives. My Starboard drive does not want to shift smoothly out of of forward gear. I have to wiggle the shifter into neutral, or kinda shift out of gear twice to get it cleanly out of gear. Any ideas? Dan

Shift cable worn out, idle too high?

My shift cables are two years old. The engines idle 600 rpm. or so. I am not so sure that this issue isn't connected to the shift cable replacement. It kind of reminds me of how my 1989 235 Sundowner reacted when the interupt module was out of adjustment. I do not think these engines have any interupt module. Dan

Could be cable adjustment at the outdrive end slightly out, coupled with some wear in the external shift linkages. I've seen a picture somewhere where the hole for the actuator rod on the shift lever had become quite elongated. Also one where that part of the lever had snapped after being used in such a worn state for some time.
