Post subject: | Dual Battery Mystery |
I have dual batteries on my 99 Vista 258. Yesterday I tried to start using battery #2 and nothing happened. It wouldn't even run the blower. I switched to battery #1 and it started right up. I figured #2 was just dead so I'd charge it with the alternator and when I turned the switch to #2 it killed the motor. I switched back to #1, started the motor and ran all day that way. I have and new fully charged battery at home so today I put that in the #2 spot and hooked it up thinking it would solve the problem. Not so - it wouldn't even run a single cabin light. I then unhooked the #2 cables completely and hooked the #1 cables on to the new #2 battery. Tried the cabin lights again as a test and found that now nothing worked with the switch on #1 but worked with the switch on #2. So by now I'm perplexed and figured I'd turn to the forum for help. Just to try one more thing, I put my #2 battery that I thought was dead in the #1 compartment and put the #1 battery in the #2 compartment and connected all the cables as they were originally. When I tested the cabin lights again I had power with the switch set at #1 and no power on #2. I did all of the connections and disconnections with the switch set at "off" All the cables are tightly connected to the back of the switch and there is nothing visibly wrong with the switch. Anyone got any ideas on what the problem could be or what I should try next? |

Sounds like you have a wire swapped on your battery selector. Not familiar with you switch but on mine if I remember there is a #1 battery post a #2 battery post and then a third post which would run to the starter. I don't have a vista so yours may be hooked up different. |

Thanks fuznuka, I'll check that out. I recall three posts on the selector but would a mis-connected cable cause the engine to quit? |
