Talked to a detailer today about cleaning/waxing the hull from the rub rail up. He asked me about the textured areas on the foredeck and gunwale areas. He said it would not create a slip hazard. My well mate has a sea ray and he waxes his foredeck.

What do you do?

I don't wax it, I just keep it clean. I walk on mine WAY to often and don't want to slide off.

I have used Star-brite Non Skid Deck Cleaner. It lifts the dirt leaves a non slippery protective finish.

You will get a variety of opinions on this. I have been waxing the nonskid though for about 10 yrs and the main reason I do it is it stays cleaner, repels dirt and stains better than without, and is easier to clean up. Gel coat is porous and dirt or growth will attach a lot easier to a porous surface than a waxed surface. FW uses aggressive enough nonskid that you want have any problems with slippage. Regardless of which way you go, I highly recommend the Starbright nonskid cleaner. It works well without a lot of elbow grease but I do think it strips wax so you'll need to be careful not to get it on smooth gelcoat. I think it has 'PTEF' to repel dirt but I've found if I don't wax, I have touse nonskid cleaner more often.
