I have two Clarion M301RCE wired remote controls in my Vista 278. Problem is that they are no longer functioning as they should. The display is ok (showing time etc.) but it is not possible to use any of the remote buttons to control the stereo. I believe that the two remotes are connected to the Clarion CMD4 CD receiver via a M101RYC multilink Y-cable. But as mentioned - the remotes are "active" since the displays shows the correct time etc.

Any ideas about where I should start locating the problem?

Check that the plugs are snug. There's a short pigtail on the back of the remotes and then there's a bunch of cable leading back to the y-splitter somewhere behind the radio. If that's not it then disconnect one remote and see if the other responds properly. And repeat against the other remote. If the situation changes with one disconnected then it'd probably need replacing.

They are probably shot..........the same two remotes were non op on my '05 Funship when I bought it last August........I replaced them with a newer clarion remote that I bought on Ebay for $28 each......I did have to cut slightly larger holes.......

Not to oversimplify things, but my Clarion remotes won't turn the stereo on if it has been turned off at the Head unit in the cabin. Once you turn the power on, you are good to go at the remotes and can power on or off with the remotes. I don't know if there is a standby mode that has to be activated with the power switch at the head unit or what, I haven't really looked into it. Just something you could try, though if you haven't already.
