Post subject:  Companionway door CRACKED

My 97 Vista 278's companionway door cracked and a big chunk (10"?) fell off. Have no idea how it happened. I keep a boat hook up on the ledge atop the door at the side windshield, my guess is it fell down and became a 'wedge'.

Anyways, Four Winns says its not available anymore.

Any idea where I can get a piece of black tinted acrylic or whatever that is, remade? Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

That stinks. I hate those mystery breakages.
Cheap way would be home depot clear acrylic and tint it to desired color. Problem with that is one side will have the tint and can scratch. Maybe put a coat of laminate on top of the tint. At least you can use the clear acrylic temporarily until you find a replacement.
I would try an auto glass company. They may be able to fabricate something.

Did you try http://greatlakesskipper.com/oem-parts-and-accessories
They have OEM stuff but that is pretty specific.

Hey Technologic...

try these guys in Norwalk, CT. www.hatchmasters.com. You ship the old part to them and they will rebuild....probably not cheap, but it'll be nice. I've been to their shop--very nice people, very busy place. I inquired about the companionway hatch for my 238 Vista...I think they gave me a rough estimate of about 500.00-- but don't quote me on that.

Good luck,

STeve

THANK YOU both for those leads. Im going to look into them Monday morning. Right now I have the cracked piece held on by black duct tape from the backside, where you cant see it. I hate it.
