Post subject: | New 288 questions |
I have more 288 questions. Sorry. I was going over the brochure last night and noticed that it doesn’t mention a speedometer or depth sounder on the standard features. The only 288 I looked at before we ordered ours was very quickly so I was not able to look over the gauges. What have most people done just add a chart plotter that will show both? My plan was to have a chart plotter added once the boat arrives. The lake we boat on has a good C-Map card. I was thinking of the Standard Horizon, but need to make sure it will do all that I need. I would love to get opinions. Thanks Bill |

We had a 2004 288 that did come with speedo and depth gauge built in. Our 2006 318 did not have them as seperate gauges but does have a transducer so I have Depth and Speed as data fields on the top line of my chartplotter...in looking at photos of the 288 helm on the fourwinns site it looks like they changed the helm configuration to allow the plotter to be front and center (just like the 318, 338, 358) whereas it used to have a spot to the lower right of the console...so my guess is that they have taken those dedicated gauges out. |

I would suggest that you look into a NMEA2000 compatable plotter. I don't believe the SH units are, still old NMEA0183. NMEA200 makes installation and addition of components down the road much much easier. Here is a list of certified product from the mnea2000 website http://www.nmea.org/about/news.cgi?article_id=177 Hereis a easy to read explanation of the system http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/LowranceNet/LowranceNet_sample.asp I installed the Lowrance 6600HD plotter with fuel flow sensors in addition to an LMF400 display. Works great, I'm very pleased with the hardware and NMEA2000 |
