Hello friends, I came across this LED boat drain plug, http://www.hurleymarine.com/Drain_Lights.html anyone installed it as it seems good to do some underwater lights without any drill to the hull. thanks Keith |

Yea, they are definately out there for substantially cheaper than $200. I was thinking I may have seen some for the $30-$40 range even.. I know there are some on eBay I think.. |

The ones I have seen are plastic, but if you can get then to make a good sealor use some rubber o-rings that might be enough. Not too sure on them as I haven't used them. |

Our Florida lake water is very tannic. My buddy installed some oceanled's on his wakeboard boat and you can barely notice em. This drain plug thingie won't work unless you have crystal clear water. An idea I've seen though is to get the SMD LED waterproof strips with the 3M adhesive backing and put that on the inside lip of the swim platform. That works really good, doesn't matter what the water quality is. Keep in mind if that LED thing in the middle pops out, a 3/8in hole at the depth of the standard drain will flow around 100 gallons per hour. |

I agree with ric, this was one of my fears when thinking of transom LED lighting. Not to mention that the light is down below the drive (if you have a single drive) so there will be a shadow cast behind the boat from the drive. For $200.00, I had these instead... http://coastalnightlights.com/ Pretty happy with the results.... ![]() |

There's no danger in having a drain plug light! I've had mine on now since the beginning of summer and I sleep very well at nite. My lake is cloudy but the light illuminates the area around my outboard just fine. I'm very happy with this product and would gladly do it again on another boat. I'm also glad I didn't have to drill through the hull, and if I sell the boat I can transfer the light to the new one with ease. IMO many more pros than cons. |
