5.7 GXI
my starboard engine has a leak neart far the transom.
its not coming from the top, its not coming from the oil carter.
only leak when engine is running.
gasket ? hose I can not figure out where it come from, but for sure its engine oil.
I put a mechanical scott towel to show you where it leak.
any suggestion where it can come ? how to fix it ? removing the entire engine ? noooo!
What about some "stop leaking" product that we add to the oil?

Hard to say for sure but it could be the adaptor for the remote filter. See if you can get down low enough to get a mirror on the bottom of the bilge so you can see up toward the adaptor that is mounted in the standard location for the filter. These do sometimes leak in fact Volvo had a recall on leaky remote oil filter lines some years back. The leak is right in line with the lines for the remote filter.

Oil carter : I mean the oil pan where the drain plug is located normally.

Remote filter ? Ah !? never heard about that before, I will study the exact location and have a look on it.
Is it sometime easy to access?

Those (black) couplings to the adapter look like they are not to be designed tightened up with a spanner, they light be a little loose ( [possibly an "O" ring in there). The ones on my 2004 engine are the more conventional hydraulic couplings, with a hex nut to use a spanner on.

They weren't just leaks, they were catastophic failures, I had one blow out last year. Here is a thread covering the oil remote lines.

The crimps on your lines don't look as solid as the new ones that I swapped out last year.

I just looked at an exploded diagram/ parts list for the later engines. Those black pieces do not screw on at all, they are retaining clips to hold the end of the hose couplings in place in the fittings screwed into the adapter. There must be some sort of seal either on the hose ends or the inside of the fittings screwed into the adapter.

what is exactly a remote filter ? are we talking the regular oil filter located in front of the engine. Regular oil filter that needs to be change with all oil change ?

I can not figure out a "remote filter" located in the back (transom), any details on that ?

As standard, the GM V8 had the oil filter mounted on the block. It was very difficult to get at it in some installations, so later ones had the filter remotely mounted on the port side exhaust riser. Where the filter used to be, an adapter was fitted, with the 2 hoses leading from it to the remote filter,

That adapter is fitted to the block with a single hollow bolt ( like the sort used in "banjo" fuel fittings), with 2 "O" rings; one sealing the bolt to the adapter, a larger one sealing the adapter to the block.

I see (remote filter) , my leaking problem is behind the engine (where the transom is) and not in front where the remote filter is located.

Even though the remote filter is up front, the area where the original filter would have mounted on the engine is right above where your oil spots are. The starter is completely on the opposite side of the engine in the same spot. And starters don't leak oil. The only other thing I can think of that can leak oil that might be in the same area is the power steering system. Check the P/S pump and see if its low on fluid. There is a power steering actuator on the transom mount behind the engine. Motor oil should be honey colored or brown, P/S fluid looks like auto trans fluid and can be red.

Nope, its not power steering fluid for sure. My power steering fluid is light and very white transparent. What is leaking is brown like 20w50 engine oil
Is there a cover for the "original GM" filter location?

any picture or diagram that I can refer too it ?

If its the original filter location is it easy to fix ?

Get your head or camera phone in there to have a look!
The relocation kit will screw in to the OEM filter housing and have 2x hoses running to the remote filter housing.

The location seems to me to be the back of the oil pan gasket, or coming down from the rear main seal. Even the oil pan gasket would only tend to leak when the engine is running and oil is splashing about inside. When stopped, the 4-5 quarts of oil are contained in the oil pan below the level of the gasket.
