Can someone explain to me why there are too freshwater inlets on my 2003 Vista 248?

Walter,

Do you mean one inlet at the back of the boat (garden hose connection) and one on the starboard side gunnel? (Fresh water tank fill). Otherwise if you have dual garden hose connectors on the transom it is possible one is a fresh water flush connection for the engine.

Captwalt, I've got a 2003 268 Vista, and have two fresh water inputs on the port side at the back of the boat--never figured out why there were two!

The one furthest to the rear of the boat is the one that is actually connected to my fresh water system. The one that is closest to the front of the boat just empties into the engine compartment!!

The first time I filled the water (bought the boat used last year), I [without thinking/checking] filled the front water inlet, and wasn't looking in the engine compartment. Next thing I know the bilge pump is kicking in and I've been pumping water ontop of the batteries into the engine!

I know that my boat, when new, had a vacuflush head system added by the dealer (not factory added), so I've always thought that it may be a second water inlet that was used before this change was made, but not after.

Not much help to you, but let me know if you figure out what the second one is. Jeff

Brett and Jeff,

I do have 2 hose inlets on the back and one is for the freshwater system on the boat and the other is the washdown however what I was referring to were the 2 inlets (in my case on the starboard side) like Jeff describes. I will check this out further before putting water in any of those. I am almost certain though that one does go to the freshwater tank and the other one is for the head. I'll post up what I find after Thursday when I finally get my boat!

Thanks,

Walter

Just to close out this thread and answer the doubts/questions I had before on my boat...

The first water inlet closest to the transom was for the freshwater tank.

The second water inlet is for the head.

Do you mean the pump out (outlet) for the head? Or is FW now putting a second water tank in for the water used by a vacu-flush head?

No Jvalich,

I have the pump out also along with the gas on the starboard side in addition to the two water inlets. Mine appears to be the same thing that Jeffery posted above where the head was added at the dealer and a second water inlet was required.
