Has anyone replaced their microwave on a newer Vista? The factory Tappan just isn't working anymore....it took over seven minutes to make easy mac last night so it's made the winter project list. I'm looking for a small microwave to fit the existing opening.

I would look at getting it repaired possibly. Doesn't look cheap.

That being said, why are you making Easy Mac in the microwave?!?!? That's such a huge waste of power! Get a 12v water boiler. I swear by mine to make coffee, ramen noodles, etc.

You can just measure the opening for it and hit your favourite retailer to pick one out you like the look of that fits. They are all AC current units simply plugged into an outlet but just check that you have a means to hold it in place well, I'd mimic the holding method of the orginal.

Pretty much all of the microwaves at a retailer have the rotating glass plate, and nothing holding the plate in place except gravity. That doesn't seem good in a boat. And if you leave the plate out, the floor is not flat. What does the Tappan have in the bottom?

Rotating glass plate, never had an issue in this or the last boat.

Ric--shore power as well as a generator, the boat gets used like we would at home.

I was hoping someone has been down this road and would know which model will fit.

Microwave ovens are so easy to repair, other than issues with the control panel I don't understand why someone wouldn't just throw another magnetron at it for $70. Don't discount an inexpensive repair, even if you have to take it to someone.

I too would explore the repair route....that thing sure looks to fit like a glove with those curved corners. Just saying, but then again my boat ain't got one cuz its a canoe compared to yours.

I tried to find a replacement microwave that would fit the existing hole on my 278 Vista but couldn't find one. I bought the smallest size available locally and cut the hole out to fit with a jigsaw. I then asked a local welder to make a trim piece with aluminum angle. He made a nice job of grinding and finishing the corners. The microwave frame matches the trim on the head door and looks like a factory original.
