Welcome! Glad to have ya here...

I know on my Sundowner, the trim is held on with a hex head screw for some, and a nut bolt combo on others. I had to feel around behind the trim in some rather tight places. Quite a few Vista guys here, they should chime in soon with some more specific details.

Besides your problem, tell us a little about yourself and your boat. Where ya boat at, oh, and pics are a must here. Again welcome.

I looked at www.boat-project.com which has several projects that were done on a 1999 268 Vista. On that web site there are several pictures for a speaker project on that boat, and one shows that you just lift the vinyl covered panels straight up. I'm not sure about the speaker panel. You might find the site rather interesting. I sure did. He did a lot of great work on that boat and there are several "behind the surface" pictures to show how the boat was built.

If it's like the 268, there is a single screw on the front end on the bottom. It's tucked under the trim so it doesn't show.

Remove that and you can lift up the trim piece and bow it out. There is another faster at the back end that has a nut behind the gun whale, I just bowed the trim and hinged it upward on the rear fastener. I could get it high enough to change speakers

I would guess the 248 is similar
